I am not new to shotguns but skeet yes. And the choke selection is confusing me some. I have Carlson 3 tube waterfowl set and u use " close" range for skeet. It has great breaks and I have shot 25 straight with it. Now wife got a cyenergy and has Midas skeet and IC chokes in it. Out of being me I measured all 3 chokes and her skeet and my "close" range was the same. But now I'm lost as on Carlson web site the measurements I got for my close range is IC but its same as her skeet! And it list this in them listing their choke sizing. So should I order a Carlson C and their skeet to pattern them as well as they would be more open then we have now according to numbers!

You don't list what your gun is, but you typically can't measure a choke from one gun to another. UNLESS they share the same choke and barrel designs.

Your choke constriction is the difference between the diameter of your bore (barrel) and your choke tube. So if your barrel measures .735 and your chokes tube measures .730, you have .005 constriction AKA Skeet.

Meanwhile your wife's choke could measure .730 yet the bore could be .750, a .020 constriction AKA Modified

For reference in 12ga. with lead shot

.005 Skeet
.010 Imp. Cylinder
.015 Light Mod.
.020 Mod
.025 Imp. Mod.
.030 Full

Well I think they both use invector plus chokes, so the bore diameter should be the same, you could always measure to be sure and find out what your chokes are really doing.

As for hitting targets, especially on a skeet field, chokes doesn't really matter, especially when it comes to the 12ga. cylinder will do just fine. So I wouldn't spend any money on fancy chokes just for skeet.

Most people overthink this stuff. Once every few weeks at our club, for break from routine we shoot skeet with a full choke. I've noticed the scores don't change by more than 3 or 4 targets from shooting Skeet chokes. Some the scores don't change at all. You're technique has far more to do with your ability to break targets than your choke tubes will ever have. A newcomer alot of times will show up with a field gun, choked modified or full and most times they will break enough targets to be encouraged to come back. One member shoots a Browning trap gun for both games without changing anything. A pattern board will tell you what the chokes are actually doing, what's stamped on the tube means BFA.
