I have choke tube that is slightly out of round and does not fit easily into the barrel. It will go in with a bit of effort. The other tubes fit easily. Is this tube junk or is it useable ?

tube: ( modified steel shot )
gun: Benelli Nova

how did it get out of round? was it likr that when you got it? if so i'd take it back to the shop where you got the benelli. if it was a private deal maybe your SOL. i wouldn't keep forcing it into your barrel, you might damage the threads inside the barrel then none of your choke tubes will fit right.

Agreed - don't force it. Are you sure it's out of round? Maybe it's threaded for a different choke system or the threads have been damaged.

Either way, I wouldn't use it.

Bought it private. So I may be SOL. Who carries Benelli tubes at a reasonable cost ? The tube was in the gun and was a bit tough to remove. The thread end was fine but the other was a bit oval. Could there be a barrel problem. the other tubes fit just fine.

well if the other tubes fit fine it sounds like the one tube is the problem. this sounds simple ,but put solvent on the tube and on the threads in the barrel and rub with a fine wire brush or even a stiff tooth brush.wipe clean . sir carries choke tube lube, but any light oil will do. apply to your choke tube and see what happens. as some one said , chuck em and buy another at your local gunshop if nothing else. it doesn't sound like a barrel problem

When installing a new tube to your barrel, would be good to apply a coat of Moly grease covering all the threads.

Chokes should always slide smoothly even without grease, as long as the threads are clean. Gotta watch not to cross thread them though.

Trying to locate tubes for the Nova online. Anyone know who carries these tubes ?
Does the Nova take any benelli tube ? Which one is the best for regular steel shot waterfowling ?

I just recently bought a whole set of Carlson's extended choke tubes for my Citori - they are VERY well made. Many reviews on the web say they pattern better than stock (not sure about that, I haven't patterned mine against stock), but either way, good selection and good prices!

Other places on the web sell Carlson's chokes as well.

yes any benelli choke tube will fit. the best for steel shot? a lot of my clients are finding mod. , for over decoys a bit too much choke. many are having me bore out to around a skeet 2. improved cylinder is being used quite a bit now as well for waterfowl over decoys.
