Choke Tubes

If a shotgun is threaded for choketubes but does not have one inserted, will shooting damage it?

The internal threads will get peened over by the shot pellets and you wont be able to screw in a choke tube when you do want to.

Shot particals and plastic from the wads will eventual make they junk. Chokes are only $20 use 1.

Over time ... probably, but I shot a couple hundred rounds over both
Browning & Beretta threads with no ill effect !

It's a better policy to get yourself a "Cylinder" choke and keep it in place.

The pellets aren't going to touch the threads. The back end of the wad seal may touch the threads. There may be pressure issues as the barrel is thinner there. All in all, for a few bucks you can ease your mind and prevent possible damage. IC is the do-all choke.

I wouldn't do it myself but I would have a hard time believing that soft lead could damage barrel steel.
