I live in an area that is discharge of shotgun with shot only.

The area is infested with coyotes = no one hunts them due to the shotgun only area.

I have a couple of Rem 870 12 gauge shotguns and a buddy just received in the mail yesterday a BNIB Benelli M4 12 gauge.

My question is what shot size/wad/choke is recommended for being able to reach out and flatten coyotes @ 50 - 60 yards.

Where do I find Carlson chokes here in Canada they do not ship out of the States.

Are there aother chokes that you would recommend and where can I source them I would also appreciate any thoughts/recommendations.

Thanks
CC

Cabelas branded chokes are made by Carlsons.

They make Hevi-shot specifically for yotes I believe.

Or a #4 buck would be a good choice, pattern to find out shot placement and choke. (Can be shot through Full chokes.)

Its only legal during firearms deer or bear season in New Bunswick, but most loads of buckshot from 4-00 has worked well for me through an improved cylinder or modified choke to around 40 yards. I do find the 3" remington 000 throws a surprisingly nice pattern out to 50 yards through a full choke in my Browning silver.
I've tried lead BB and while an effective load at 30 yards and closer much past that most coyotes I shot with it seem to run and take a little longer to expire then I'd prefer.
60 yards is a lot to ask from a shotgun without getting into specialized loads and chokes in my opinion.

well we cant tell you what load or choke to use but anything from number 4 lead shot to number 4 buck has worked for me but you have to pattern your gun

my favourite load is one i load up my self i think its about a T or F sized shot id have to check but its what ever the old canucks call AAA it patterns well in my gun and theres a heck of alot of pellets in the air for coyote

Get a BB in IM choke.

The distributor for Carlson chokes in Ontario is http://alscornerstore.ca/Carlsons_choke_tube

I bought from them. Delivered in Xpress mail in a few days. Love them!

FWIW...I have ordered from them and had absolutely no problems with their service...and like someone else mentioned patterning your own gun / shot combo is your best bet to find an effective yote smasher.

i would try the chokes that you have all ready before investing in more chokes that may or may not improve gun performance . generally the heavier the pellets once you get past number 4 buck the less they respond to a tighter choke but experiment and pattern your guns as they will generally all respond in a different manner even using the same ammo . it is one part choke and the rest is black magic . number 4 buck is used in our area with good results but 60 yards is a long way out to put down a coyote in my opinion.i would consider 40 yards to be the limit with a shotgun . most coyotes that get the shotgun treatment are running in front of dogs and are shot as they cross a clearing by posted shooters but calling them in is another option . good luck whatever you choose as coyote hunting is addictive once you have tried it .
