Speaking strictly of firing the .264" 156-160gr round nose which case would you choose to fire it from?
Obviously the 6.5x55 is the clear winner but a conversation with a buddy sparked a discussion where I chose the 54ms as my preference whereas hed pick one of the newer 6.5s on the market. Left me wondering how the masses would vote old school vs new school
It would be used for hunting deer and black bear in a stalking type situation

I’d say it depends on the platform more than anything.

Small ring Mauser? 55 or 54MS all the way.

Remington 700? Creedmoor is your huckleberry

"Obviously the 6.5x55 is the clear winner"? Really? I know this cartridge has a cult following but I wouldn't even consider it unless I already had brass, dies, etc.

To my mind, the "clear" choice is the .264WinMag. Flat, fast, accurate...it pushes all the buttons today's hunter likes to have pushed. I suppose it would even be legal in southern Ontario wherever rifles can be used for deer. Not the greatest barrel life, but as a strictly hunting rifle that won't should thousands of rounds, it's tough to beat...and I already have brass, dies, etc. :)

But in that area you likely won't be using it at long ranges, so...if for some weird reason you must have a 6.5mm bullet instead of a .45-70 slug :)...I'd just take a 6.5Creed and go hunting.
