Given that you include “Stainless Featherweight” as one of your selection, light weight must be one of your key criteria. You also have a pretty wide price range. Look like you have a deep pocket as well.

So here it goes. If you want to go below 6 pounds such as the Ti series, you will not only notice the significant recoil of a moose rifle you will also see an increase in the price tag (for the little that you are getting).

Both Sako Finnlight and Tikka T3 SS rifles are just over 6 pounds which will make walking a full day an easy chore. They are very accurate rifles right out of the box.

The real question is how much recoil you can tolerate and how much you are willing to pay. I don’t think you can go far wrong by picking either one of the two.

BUM- NEVER!!! not into the 9.3's ...YET
JohnC- I like Rugers but lets face it...there just not pretty...there like the dirty tramp you take to a hotel to rail :p. They know what there job is and they do it well!!!

Kilo Charlie- I seen them as well. But I havent seen one on a website yet...

Blargon- Dont rub it in sh*thead:D.

DannyBoy- At almost 6 1/2 pounds I don't really consider any of the Featherweights or Finnlights "lightweight"....However Sheep hunter has got me thinking I might want to split the difference (financially) and go with a Kimber 84M .308 Classic...wood stock, matte bluing...and 5lbs8oz THAT IS A LIGHTWEIGHT!

Sheephunter- You seem to know your sh*t and needless to say I think Im gonna go for the Kimber here unless something else pops up that can't be resisted. At 1119$ (TSE) and 5 1/2 pounds that 84M would be a steal of a deal...already glass and pillar bedded, CRF!, and best of all...a fawking wood stock! Im not crazy about the bluing but Im sure I'll hey over it...

.303 British-Cheap, solid rifle, lots of power for moose and deer. Theres one guy I know, he owns (and has only ever owned ) a 12 ga. ad a 303. he shoots a moose and a deer with it every year and has for the past 40. longest shot on a moose was 150 yards w/ 200 gr. bullet

308 Stainless Featherweight

I just picked up a used Stainless Featherweight in 308 Win.

Very nice rifle, got a used Leupold 2.5x Ultra light for it, but have not had a chance to sight it in yet, lots of wind here on the Manitoulin Island lately, but hopefully it will calm down this weekend and I can get out to the farm and give it a try.

Wait for the Featherweight or grab a Kimber but the 308 Win will serve you well.

I had a kimber in 308 and it was a sweet little rifle. Recoil is so mild from a 308 even with fulljam hunting loads that the lightweight aspect of it or the Finnlight has real appeal.

300win mag.....or stay home,i have shot my share of moose and yours and your neighbours. This cartridge is king, small recoil big payoff and will travel across canada for anything that we have to offer. Loaded with nosler bullets this will drop a moose shot at all angles and distances. The loads are avaliable from everyone and so are the factory loads. We all want to drive a pink caddilac but do want to park it in our driveway?

LOL I love how everyone is recommending a magnum here to drive a steak through the mooses heart...how tough are the moose on your guys end that they can't be killed with a .270? Like I said before I have NO intentions on buying any Magnum what so ever right now.

35 Whelen is also a sweetheart of a cartridge that I will own one of these days....but for now it'll be a .308.

.358 Norma? No I'm already trying to make a deal with my grandfather for his Voere in .308 Norma Mag.

Still think I'm gonna be picking up a Kimber or biting my nails till a SS Featherweight comes out in .308 LOL.
