Choosing a black rifle

Not everyone that competes in Service Rifle-style matches wears "costumes" or pretends to be a commando.

Yah, most of us skip the costume part. :p

I have to ask, who cares about match scores? I would hazard that most guys that own an XCR don't care about matches, rather they use them to shoot varmints, big game, paper or just to plink. Are you just on some sort of anti-XCR tirade? Or is it the x39 that gets up your nose? Is using a rifle to shoot animals or to plink somewhat less noble than dressing up in a costume and pretending to be commando on the flat range?

I think the point Gunnerlove was making (and I hope I'm not putting words in his mouth by saying this) is that claiming your rifle shoots MOA with surplus ammo, but based on 3 round "groups" shot at 100 yards, doesn't mean squat.

I am one of those guys that bought XCR to shoot everywhere, used to shoot AR-15 lots. Don't have anything against them, I will not spend any amount of money on a rifle that can only be used at a range, padlocked and cased and papered to from said range to house, and back. If I was a LEO or in the military might buy an AR to get some practice in. But, like Ben mentioned , I am too old to run around at a "match" ;). To those of you that do, enjoy, my range is just more "open" and informal. The only reason I know how well/bad surplus shoots in my XCR is pulled fmj's and replaced with SST's for hunting. So, I had to try SST's on paper, since I was set up shot fmj's for group too. Usually just zero "truck" gun and go shooting. Shocked when SST's didn't shoot as good as crappy surplus, maybe that will make somebody happy!

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with that! (Sometimes all I want to do is break clays at 100 yards with my 10/22)

It just bugs me when people claim MOA accuracy without adequate testing.

The purpose of Service Rifle or any competition is to test yourself and your equipment.
If you do something live in front of a hundred fellow competitors you did it. If you can repeat it you can do it.

I will continue to shoot in my countries uniform and respect all those who put their name where their mouth is and shoot for recorded score. There are no big game stories on the DCRA website. Only what people did against conditions and the clock.
