Trying to decide between two bullets for coyotes. 55gr sierra bthp and 55gr sierra sbt. The spitzer has a higher bc and that is something to consider, but which do you think would be more effective for varmints. I will be shooting from 200 to 500 yards using a semi-auto .223.

Of the two you are asking about, I would use the SBT first. I would seriously look at the 55 Nosler Ballistic Tip or the 55 Hornady V-Max before any Sierra bullet for the job at hand. I have shot a pot full of 'yotes right out to 500+ with the 55 Ballistic Tip, and they are great. Eagleye.

I have never tryed the 55gr Nosler Ballistic but I have shot a lot of coyotes with a semi .223 and the 55gr Hornady V-MAX worked great every time. I would give them a try

Have you tried Berger bullets yet?

I only ask as I am now a BELIVER, after 15 years of towing the Nosler party line.

I bought a box of 60 gr 6mm (.243) bullets with a BC of .236 "just to try" on the yotes. I realise that you are shooting a .223, but they make them too.

I have to say the hype about Berger aint just hype..... My groups at 300yrds are now under 3.5" (from 5"), muzzle Velocity is up a just a hair (50fps ish), felt recoil is less (I can't tell ya why), bullet drop is less (instead of 1.5" high at 100 to be even at 300, I am now about 3/4" high at 300) on account of the lower BC. And I am using 1.1 grain less of powder.

Just putting it out there, some thing else to think about.....

Cheers

I copy-pasted this from the Berger web site.

This is a list of all of their current production .224 Varmit bullets

Cheers!
