.270 or .280. are "mountain" rifle calibers. 7mm-08 is a "wannabe" cartridge.

Whatcha mean...the 11-pound laminate Omega isn't a light-weight sheep rifle....
I thought it was the ultimate......short actions are for wannabes.....no action is where it's at......
Good luck with the Kimber jurban. From the limited experience I have with them they seem like a pretty cool mountain rifle. Can't wait to see the pics!

I had your exact choice to make this year for my sheep hunt - only my gun safes cover the range of calibers and cartridges including the ones you list. I could have taken any of the choices that the posters here have mentioned and many more. My choice was one of my 308s.
Getting off topic a little.
BEAUTIFUL ram. If I could close my eyes and imagine a ram on the wall that would be it. I might drift to something broomed as big as my fist and over the nose, but I wouldn't be less pleased with that ram. That is a pretty sheep.

Caribou hunting is more my style around here in Quebec. Long shots are pretty common. Shot my last caribou at 450 yards or so with my .30-06.

I went on an expensive hunt with a 300 H&H and a 257 WBY . Never saw any ammo for them anywhere but 270 Win, 308 Win, 30-06 Spring and 7 mm Rem Mag was always available. If you hunt in far away places , get a caliber that you can find in a gas station if you have too!!!
I bought a Tikka T3 Lite in 30-06 for my mountain rifle , topped it in a Leupold 2x7x33mm . It weighs 7lbs 6oz ready to go. Shoots 3/4" 3 shots @100yds, 1 1/2" @ 300yds.
I would go with the 308 Win. Shoots great and hits hard . What more could you ask for?

7mm is magic
I have love for all 3 of your choices but i have had my best success with the magic 7. thats why im partial to it. I have taken big moose big bear and big deer all with one shot although it wasnt on a mountain, we dont have many around here but a couple of kills were on hills LOL. Jurban your useage states only smaller animals deer and under so whichever one you like the best is the one you should pick. The roberts is far less common making it stand out as a maybe a more unique choice. Everyone and thier buddy has a 308 and the 7mm08 has been becoming a lot more prominent in the woods (2/3rds of your vote) as well. Both the 308 and 7mm08 can offer the ability to be an Elk or Moose rifle as well which would be their biggest bonus. I own a 308 too. I just love a short light rifle so the remington 700 mountain rifle in 7mm08 is my choice. I beleive the 7mm bullet to be the best one out there i think that mauser fella who originally did the math that started it all off got it rite from the start.

Well I got her this afternoon...... Found here locally I already had a new VX-3 2.5-8x36 so as soon as my Talley's get here I'll mount them up and head out to the range. Hope she shoots good then I can start working on some load development.

Congratulations on your early Christmas present.
Nice gun I would like to look at one, and get the opportunity to shoot one.
I have heard lots of good things about the Kimber, but what are the outstanding features of a Kimber? Are they more of a hand built firearm?
I have had some Sakos, Brnos, Steyrs, Brownings, Remingtons and Mauser commercial hunting rifles. But haven't had a chance to handle a Kimber to compare.

If you are looking at an 84M dont forget about a 260 it is a fine cartrage also
