I'm looking at new Glock pistols and have narrowed the choice down to a G17 or G22. I'm looking at the .40 because I have a 92FS in 9mm already, but I'm wondering if I should just get a 9mm Glock because I already have all the reloading gear for it. I've also heard that the .40 S&W Glocks are the ones most likely to grenade in your hand. :D

The pistol will be used for ipsc style shooting when I get proficient with it, let me know what sort of connector, sights, etc. you would recommend. I've seen a few members Glocks with nice sight setups already, I'm not sure what qualifies for stock division though. Thanks for any advice you have.

On one hand, .40 will get your foot into major on the other, 9mm will be cheaper to shoot.

Also, depends on what reloading equip you have , as someone mentioned on here, it'd cost him ~$450 to get all bits to reload another caliber.

To reload .40 I only need to get a set of dies and a new turret for my press, I've already collected a good amount of .40 brass, have a bunch of win 231, small and large pistol primers, etc. I will need some new projectiles though, what is a good bullet weight with the .40? Thanks in advance.

The G17 is the choice. The ammo is cheap enough to make reloading non- viable. I have the bigger G21(.45) and seldom use it because i have less time to reload. The .40 is just as expensive to shoot. 9's put holes in paper just as nice as a .45 and is half the price.

Buy a 1911, there is no class in selecting an injection molded euro trash pistol as a sidearm.
Besides 1911s look better, shoot straighter and are customizable.

I've got a 1911 already, and lol at the shoot straighter comment. I've also seen alot of customized Glocks so I don't think you've got that one right either. I can't help but agree with you on the fact that 1911's look better though.

Ok, figure out what IPSC division you gonna shoot in and whether you can use Single Action pistol or not. Also, keep in mind if you go 1911 route, they come as single stack and double stack where single stack will limit you to 7-9 rounds thus more mag changes.

As I said, .40 will make major (more points) as opposed to 9mm.

If you can use single action gun, you may wanna take a look at CZ 75SA which is a very nice competition gun and can be had in .40.

Myself, I desided on SA double stack 1911 in .40 ...

Well I sort of just made that decision myself, although for me the decision wasn't about calibre. My friend was pushing me to go for .40 because it's more powerful. But for my intended use as an IPSC pistol 9mm makes more sense because it is cheaper. My choice was CZ 85 Combat or Glock 17. And again, cheaper made more sense for me.

Good luck.

This is rich. If you're interested in trolling for sausage at the range the look of your pistol might be important. Many of us are interested in shooting our guns not posing. Remember, its the shooter that makes the shot, not the gear. Learn how to shoot.

Get the M&P 9mm :D

but if it has to be the Block go with a G17 no point getting set up for .40 if you already relaod for 9mm. It's just not that different just cost's more money. If you want something different get a .10mm or a .45ACP

I like the Glock 34, but since its 220$ more than the 17, I would go 17 and get 1000 rounds of 9mm for the same price as the 34.

Agreed. Do you care about if it works or if it looks cool. Look at what people who shoot or fight for a living are using and that should answer your question.

I'm finally giving Glock a try. I bought a G22 from Ellwood. I don't have it yet but look forward to receiving it and shooting it. I already have two 9mm pistols, but only one .40 so I went with the G22.
