Alright so i have a well used 1187 super-mag and i am looking to convert it to a 3-gun style shotgun. The gun has a 26" barrel with a vent rib on the top but i have read that you can cut them to 22" without altering the gas ports, i am looking to bring it down to 20" if possible. So i guess my question is, has anyone done this and who would you recommend to help/cut down the barrel.
Point to note i would also be planing to put a mag extension on it so it will hold 5.9 3 1/2" shells.

funny, i recently came across a similar setup on another forum, turned out really good in my opinion. Seems like the stock ports are ok,

"We actually had more of a conversation about the barrel - he suggested that he open up the gas ports to .120" at the same time. I decided to try them at .116" first and make my decision from there. Turns out that the .116" ports worked just fine - I was cycling Remington low base Dove & Quail #8 loads without a hitch with the shortened barrel, even with a worn o-ring seal.

Even though it worked fine with the low base birdshot loads, I decided to add the barrel seal activator and along with a new o-ring seal, the Federal reduced-power 00 buck load cycles the action very robustly - I no longer have any concern about this load functioning reliably with the way the 11-87 is now set up."

Ive shortened vent ribbed barrels as well as rifle barrels using a hose clamp and a hack saw, makes for a decent guide. Follow that with a light bit of filing and deburr/polish with 600 grit sand paper. Bit of cold blue to touch up the muzzle. Ive had great results with it, fairly easy too do if you have the tools and time.
