Chopping down a Walther P22 to barely legal size?

Hey all

Went to the states yesterday and got to play with a bunch of prohibited treasures. Goofed around with a hot pink Walther P22 in a "purse pistol" size. Of course, loved it. The width of the grip was just the same width as my hand at rest (in between pointer and thumb) -- Absolutely perfect. Except they're not legal here.

The big problem is, the longer barreled P22s have no appeal for me

Came across a site where a guy chopped his P22 to barely legal (106mm)

Is there someplace that does this around here? Pros/Cons? Will it effect the handling of the gun at all?

Would be interested in knowing any info about this

Thanks!

Barrel harmonics will be reduced, making it marginally more accurate. That said, you'd have a slightly shorter sight radius, so it'd be harder to aim... Net gain, pretty much zero as far as that's concerned.

More muzzle-flip... Slightly lower velocities... Not sure how it would do as far as feeding is concerned.

It certainly does look better, though. Would look really nice with a fake suppressor on it (until real ones are legal, anyway! :p).

You'd also need to install a front sight on the slide once you remove the big ugly extention at the front of the gun which normally carries the sight.

Frankly it's still an ugly gun. But I don't see why you can't do this if it tickles your fancy. You'd need to have a smith do the job so the muzzle crown can be properly machined onto the cut end. But other than that it's as simple as remove the body extension and hacksaw off most of what you want to remove. Then get a guy you trust that has a lathe to form the muzzle crown properly so it's bang on centered and square with the bore.
