chopping your M-14 barrel

Ok guys walk me through this please!::D

I have a really good machinist, but he is not a gunsmith. What does he need to do to ensure the crown is correct and it doesnt screw up the accuracy, after he lops off the barrel and needs to "finish" off the crown?

PLug the barrel with jacketed bullet turned upside down. Drive bullet to where you will cut the barrel, so when you cut it bullet will support chrome lining and prevent flaking. Then make one final clean cut moving cutter from center to outside to make nice and clean crown.

If you are chopping barrel then there is no need for labour intensive flash hider removal work - just chop it off with hacksaw or something. Amputation in other words. Never look back.

Someone mentioned my shooting technique - that was a joke by the way. "Close my eyes and squeeze the trigger" is my fav line.

Be aware that if you cut the barrel to less than 18" it will become a restriced firearm.

Any gunsmith able to do this kind of work should know this, but you should ask about it anyways.

APG

Actually it becomes a prohibited firearm if you chop the barrel to less than 18".

It becomes restricted if cut less than 18.5" but above 18".

I beleive you are wrong.

It can not be reclassified as restricted unless you put a factory made barrel on that is less than470mm (+ consideration for overall length etc...).

You do the work yourself and its prohib.

Now here is an interesting question, does it be come a 12(x) class with a home made short barrel. Can some people legally own a m305 with a home made 16" barrel?

No you cannot create or import any more prohibs. Even if you have the prohib classification you cannot create a Norinco shorter than 18 1/2 without using a factory short barrel. Now if Dlask would do a run on barrels since he is a manufacturer they would be just restricted. It's stupid but them's the breaks. A springfield imported with a 16 inch barrel would be restricted (I believe) as it is manufactured that way.
