It seems like every year I build a Ballard project at Christmas. This year it is a #3 Ballard Gallery rifle I bought at auction recently. It had a bad barrel and some terrible marks in the outside of the barrel, I assume someone tried to take the barrel off with a pipe wrench or something. It was missing the 2 piece extractor for 22 and had a couple of missing pieces from the wood. I built the extractors, welded up the nasty marks in the barrel, bored and relined the barrel, casehardened, blued and cleaned up the wood a little bit, it still has it’s antique character. I put a Marbles tang sight and a Lyman 17 front sight. I think this will be a very fine shooting 22. When the weather improves I will find out. I really like shooting these with this 26” barrel, it is a great weight, excellent trigger and just an overall great gun for BPCR 22 sihloutte.
