So I received way more money for my dirthday then I thought I would, (it's coming up on the sixth of this month.. I expect some happy wishes!!) With birthday money combined with Christmas money I figure I'll have just over a grand. I'm seriously inlove with SiG's now and saw the 229 Equinox a week ago for $1,400. I am really gassing for this pistol but hate the .40 S&W cartridge via my G22 and G23 but I believe the weight of this no polymer pistol will help tame the ridiculous .40 beast and make me very happy with shooting as 9mm even feels a little "plinky" or under-powered in my hands.

Your thoughts? Anyone shot a 229 SiG in .40? Any comparison to polymer framed pistols?

To be honest, I'm afraid to drop the cash on this pistol because I don't know if I'm going to love it, the fiancee has limited me to five pistols in the safe and the SiG makes for number five.

Geez, not even married yet & whipped good already....:runaway: :p

Happy Birthday, though.....

Happy B-day! I have the 226 and am not really that impressed. I like my Glock 22 better.

If you don't mind me asking where are you in Ontario? Maybe sometime I could come out to your club and shoot your 226 some time? I would REALLY appreciate a lot and of course pay for ammo.

9mm feels "plinky" ? Not so "plinky" when you get hit by one !:)

No doubt!!

I started with .22 pistols and moved up to a .38 special revolver which was an incredible amount of power. This was all with taining, when I finally bought my own pistol it was the G22 .40 and was just too powerful but got used to it, I simply don't find it pleasurable to shoot. Once I took my PT92 (Beretta 92 copy) I enjoy shooting it and love the weight of the full steel frame but know I can handle more power than 9mm.

Don't know where you are in ON, but I'm in Cornwall ON. I shoot in Montreal, though. If you're ever in the area, you can put a few through my 229 SAS at CRAFM.

By the way, the 229 shoots .40 like a dream. It puts cheap plastic to shame.

That is what I wanted to hear!!!

Thanks for the offer, I would love to but Montreal is a little far for me right now, maybe, like you said if I'm out that way I could send you a PM and see if we could get something worked out, I would really appreciate it a lot!

Why not go .45? With the heavy Sig it's probably less jumpy than a .40 in a plastic gun. Ammo more available and you'll be set for when you move up to a 1911 which as we all know is, well, the best it can get:) (ok I've got a Sig too)

IT is not real clear what you intend to use the pistol for?
Plinking? Stick with a 9mm it is cheaper.
What is the appeal of the .40 caliber?
Personally don't like the ergonomics of the Sig. So I would suggest that you get one in your hands first to determine whether it "fits" for you.

you just need more practice... .40 if anything is an easy round to shoot... I would go as far as to call it low powered... Some 9s feel the same as .40 so I dont get your reference that 9 is weak.

But this forum will ruin you. It will force you to shoot nothing but full house hot 10mm all day long... and you will enjoy it:D

Get something in 10mm.... everthing else is a coma inducing waste of time

Personally I'm not a big fan of the Equinox - it just doesn't look right to me. The 229 is supposed to be a no-nonsense, form-follows-function, military pistol. Adding polished accents and goofy laminated grips (not even real wood) is kind of like putting chrome "dubz" on a military humvee. I'm also not a fan of extended "appendage" barrels, which is why I could never own a Canada-legal P229. Every time I'd look at that ugly protrusion I would be reminded of the sheer stupidity of our laws - a real downer.

But that's just my opinion. If the Equinox is calling your name - go for it.

Except when you need to get a part or fixed. Then cheap plastic (Glock) is a dream come true when it takes a couple days to get a part as opposed to 6 months.

Be sure to tell me that Sigs never break. I like being reminded about that.
