Simple question. How many more rounds "crates" would I be able to get out of a chrome need barrel vs a non chromed lined barrel?

Cheers

I think that this may be a non issue. Sorry I don't have the answer, but I know guys who say they are on their 40+th crate of Czech ammo with the non chrome barrel and still get good accuracy and no seeming effects on the rifling. Hope that helps.

Agree/\

Is the OP asking about SKS or CZ/VZ-858 rifles?

At this time, an SKS is cheaper than a case of surplus. If the barrel wears out after 20 crates, buy another SKS.

Ammo cost far exceeds the cost of the rifle. If a 200 dollar rifle lasts only 20,000 rounds, your cost for the rifle is only 1 cent per shot. On the other hand, each CZ round/shot costs 16 - 18 cents depending on where you bought it.

One of our suppliers forwarded me info from a study done by the US mil. The difference in the life of a chrome lined barrel to a non chrome lined barrel is less then 5k rounds.

If your shooting 5rd mags, semi-auto then no worries. Chrome bores are only a must for full auto guns. It does make cleaning easyier though.

The real moral of the story here is that there is no reason to own at least one or two rifles such as the SKS and/or CZ858 with or without a chrome bore. Once you have them, take pictures of your wife holding them and smiling and then send pics to Wendy.

With corrosive ammo the practical difference can be significant. Yugo AKs are a prime example as their rifles were often surplussed in fantastic condition aside from a rusted out barrel.

The salts combined with humidity, rain and a difficult maintenance schedule can easily reduce the effective lifespan by half or more. You must be very vigilant with cleaning and maintenance on a non chrome lined barrel to keep it in proper condition, even a hunting trip with no corrosive fired has resulted in rust developing in the bore from high humidity.
