Chrome bore CZ - Jamming problem

I recently purchased one of the Chrome bore CZs from Marstar. Other than some of the pins/rivets holding it together looking like someone took a grinder to them the rifle seemed fine.

BUT - After going to the range I had a problem with the rifle.

Every so often the spent shell would not extract, the "body" of the shell would jam itself in the chamber with just the rim that the extractor pulls on showing. One time the "rim" was even cracked off by the extractor.

I was using the steel Czech surplus ammo bought from Marstar.

My brother has the regular cz-858 without the chrome bore and has never had this problem.

I'm wondering if any othe chrome CZ owners have had this problem?

clean the hell out of the gun NOT too much lube as its cold and can slow the action

I got one of the 1st vz58s from marstar it would rarely extract correctly with any ammo

I called john who told me to send it back

they could not get it to work right so he sent me a new one no problems with it had to wait for the transefer stupid CFO but other then that no problems

I've shot hundreds of rounds through mine including lots of rapid fire and I haven't had any problems whatsoever.

Send it back....

Make very sure that the gun is clean! You'll want oil, and not cosmo on your working parts and in the chamber. If there's any packing grease in the chamber it would definitely hold the steel core stuff.

Mine does the same thing, must be very clean, lightly oiled. shot 400 rounds though it, only 5 have jammed, only with the crate CZ ammo, the cheap stuff, never had a problem with the good ammo. Not sure if they are related.

A case stuck in the chamber and signs of tearing of the rim means extraction is beginning while the case is adhered to the chamber walls. This is caused by one of two things:

- the cases are sticking in the chambers. Either the chamber or the case is excessively dirty or rough.

- The action is mistimed and is trying to open when the case is still obturated by gas pressure.

Check to be sure your ammo is smooth and clean. If it is, the rifle is defective, send it back.

I actually saw that happen last time I was at the range. Not with mine, but another member. Ripped the corner off the bottom of the shell. Had to push it out with a cleaning rod

failure to extract

I actually saw that happen last time I was at the range. Not with mine, but another member. Ripped the corner off the bottom of the shell. Had to push it out with a cleaning rod

I also have seen same - when swapping from brass and steel cartridges, and from corrosive ammo fouling the gas piston at the port with RUST !The piston rod seizes.

^la dee da man. Sounds like you're just bitter and got a beat up rifle.

Oh and nice of you to put your broken rifle on the boards here for someone to buy.

I bet its the rifle, mine has never jammed once since I've got it. at least 6000+ rounds through it not one jam ever.

THats totaly BS Romeo, my regular 858 has worked flawlessly and i would trust my life to it. I find it vastly superior to the sks, its lighter, more ergonomic, it is just as reliable and takes apart just as easy if not easier than an sks. Parts for the CZ are typically of much higher fit and quality, mags are relatively cheap and plentiful, and it has a smoother 2 stage trigger as opposed to the horrid long trigger on most SKS. Nothing wrong with an SKS, i just think u got burned with a bad gun therefore you opinion is biased.

Well Matt, if you don't mind buying crap that doesn't work why don't you take it off his hands.:jerkit:

Also, he is being honest about the rifles condition...something that he didn't get from the seller when he bought it.

Geez already, marstar has said it a thousand times, and it has been posted a thousand times, if there is a problem, they will fix it.

But the needless public slagging will always continue anyways.

The usual drama will play out....did you contact marstar first about this? Did you try to fix this problem before making it a public debaucle? blah blah blah.

...IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, IT PROBABLY IS.

I purchased one of these rifles off of a buddy after watching two guys burn through 2500 rounds each, over two days without any problem at all.
Little did I know that the rifle I was buying wasn't the same rifle at all.
Do the research before buying one of these. Some are "refurbished" military surplus. Some are "new". Some are Military surplus with new parts.
Just take a look inside and see if there is any snipped springs and welded blocks. Does the bolt slide freely or does it get hung up on the receiver?

After my buddy was nice enough to give me a second rifle. I took it to the range and had the exact same results.

The range warden wanted to have a cease fire and I couldn't clear the chamber. I had to BEAT THE COCKING HANDLE WITH A BLOCK OF WOOD to get the action open, which ripped the rim off the casing. Then I had to pound out the remaining part of the bullet with a rod.
This happened 12 times before I went home.

Lets face it. The only reasons why any of us are buying these rifles is to take a "military" type rifle to the bush and the inconsistent ammo is dirt cheap.

It is the new SKS. Only for way more money.

It doesn't matter how much "tactical" crap you buy and bolt on this thing, it would never even be considered by most of us if there was an option to carry a real battle rifle to the field.

The company that is building these out dated, badly built rifles and the company that imports them, are laughing all the way to the bank.

Spare me your stories of how the Eastern block super duper special forces are using them, blah blah blah.

Look at it...right now...hold it in your hands and tell me with a straight face. " Dude, this rifle is the raddest thing ever. And I love it!"

You are only lying to yourself.

Whew!

Mine will be put up on the board this afternoon. Dirt cheap. Unless I can get one that has at least 500 rounds through it with no feed failures. NOT 4 jams out of 100 rounds. NOT 1 failure to extract every 4 mags.

IT IS BEING TOTED AS A FIGHTING RIFLE, A BATTLE RIFLE...WELL, IT ISN'T EVEN A RELIABLE PLINKER

Well, I've put well over 1000 rounds, all Czech surplus, through the VZ-58S I bought from Marstar, and it's never had any failures whether taking my time or just blasting away as fast I can empty the 5 rounds out of the neutered mag. It's also quite accurate.

Sounds to me like you just got a bad rifle.

Cheers!

The 858 that was built by Ceska Zbrojovka, the original builder of the vz58, seemed to know what they were doing when they installed a longer barrel on the 858 tactical 2. I think the only suscesful thing Hermex was able to do with its CZH 2003 line of riffles was keep the barrels as they are or shorten them in their Defender versions. I don't think the L model with its new aftermarket chrome lined barrel was thoroughly tested. Since I don't own one of these L models, it's just my opinion.

My current 2 CZH 2003S with the original barrels work flawlessly as do all my 858s.

Added
Remember the longer barrels were primarily made only for Canada ……and I’d sooner trust the original manufacturer to do these conversions rather then a company whose main focus is selling assorted military surplus (HERMEX). But they sure have some cool surplus …….anyone interested in a T72 ? :D

Dude, this CZ858 is the raddest thing ever. And I love it! really. after 600 rounds , zero fail to feed and zero fail to extract with czech ammo.
