Chrome lined barrel, cut and thread?

Most smiths won't touch it. The chrome tends to peel, but it's also hard on the smiths tap, and they aren't cheap

Yeah I'm not sure how far you'll get as the chrome chips and peels when cut like that, in a lot of cases you have to cut down longer than you want and grind it to finished length and profile. Threading for chokes is even tougher as you have to cut into and ream the barrel out and there's no way to grind that, it has to be done with carbide cutters...

There is such a thing as external chokes though, I have no idea how easy it would be to get them, but you can externally thread the shotgun barrel and they thread on like a flash hider.

One of the best smiths I know of; and one whom does Vang Comp treatment to shotguns (and has an extensive knowledge of; and works on Benelli shotguns) is Casey at Tactical Ordnance. He is a site sponsor here, so maybe give him a call or email, explain the situation and see if he can do it? If not Tac Ord, I'm really not sure whom else can do it...

For what it will cost to thread and tap a barrel for chokes, you might be able to buy a new barrel if it's an M2/SBE/Supernova. If it's an M4 Entry, then gunsmithing is your only option.

It's a SBE2, Looking to build a semi-auto buckshot hog smasher for my next texas trip. we had a blast with shotguns down there last time, but a shorter barrel would have been much more useful in the swamps. I have a spare 28" barrel. Benelli does not make one shorter then 24" and the price of a new one is ludicrous.

Tactical Ordinance says no go.

The quest continues.

you could get a new barrel machined .

Not really possible with a SBE2, the barrel is threaded into the upper receiver extension assembly, which you can't get at all. It would be a multi thousand dollar venture IF you could find a smith to even do it...

As to the OP;

I might look into just getting someone to JUST cut the barrel down, then try and look into getting an external choke instead of an internal one. You'd need like an inch of the barrel to be extended out past the vent rib and then it can be externally threaded like a regular firearm... If you know of a Machine shop that can do EDM wire cutting, that would definitely work and shouldn't damage the chrome. It would make a nice flat smooth muzzle.

These are for the VEPR/Saiga 12 shotgun, from Optics Planet so you might be able to get IRG or Brownells to ship them up (seeing as how shotgun stuff is Department of Commerce rather then Dept. of State, it's usually easier to get shipped up)

You can also try and look up Breda shotgun chokes, as some of them I have seen are external chokes, although a bit longer than the VEPR ones...

Other than that, I can only say good luck!

Never seen those before. Totally new avenue to explore, appreciate it!

I have something similar on a 12g it’s a threaded adaptor for saiga or vepr shotguns, it threads on to the externally threaded barrel and then winchokes thread into the adaptor. It works well, I’ll see if I can find a link to them online.
