Could we get the non-restricted model of this rifle with a chrome lined barrel? I've been looking at this gun for some time now, but what puts me off is that the barrel for the non-restricted version isn't chrome lined.

At this point, I think I'll just stick with an SKS, since they have a chrome lined barrel, but I really want to know if it would be possible to bring in an order of Cz-858s with that feature.

Please? Pretty, pretty please! :D

I think there was an order or 2 of non restricted chrome lined 858's 2 or 3 years ago. I have to agree, why haven't they chrome lined these rifles? I won't buy one, for the same reason.

It really doesn't make that much of a difference if you clean it after shooting corrosive. Lots of guys have been shooting their Mosins for years with no chrome barrels and they still shoot fine(not to mention that they were throughly used before they got to them).

Chrome lined not needed, only cleaning and oiling:D Ok, i had mine Tenifer processed because the deal was too good to pass on but i would have keptit non treated. My mosin not chromed,96 yers old and still shooting:) Bottom point, non chromed is not a big deal at all.

I agree - clean it the same day and you will have no problems.
I just tried a CZ858 and I can't believe how much nicer it is than an SKS !

Guns gotta be cleaned after shooting corrosive,

and the barrel is the easiest part to clean.

So I don't see the big advantage of chrome lined.

Whether chrome lining is 'necessary' or not, I am certain that having a chrome lining would not steer people away from buying one. I just don't understand CZ and other manufacturers mentality of offering it in one barrel length and not the other. It makes ZERO sense.

It's pretty straight-forward, actually. Money.

All the chrome-lined barrels are NOS or from de-milled VZ 58s. Cost is effectively zero to the manufacturer. The non-res 858 barrels are new build. Chrome lining them would add to the cost.

I'd easily pay the extra cost for chrome lining, or factory Tennifer, it's not like these rifles wouldn't still be a lot less expensive than similar nonrestricted items in our market, or that the Czechs lack the means to do it.

Most of your anguish is due to mental gymnastics. :)
I have both a chromed and non-chromed (restricted and non-restricted) version of the 858. Both shoot corrosive ammo and get cleaned the same way. Zero corrosion issues with either one.
I try not too lose sleep over internet experts who tell me what the theoretical advantage of A vs. B is.
I'll leave the debate to smarter people than me.
While they work on a satisfactory answer - I'll be shooting my guns and having fun doing so.;)

X2! But I will not leave the debate to smarter people, I will belittle them, and poke fun at their genitals.
