Whatever floats your boat and I don't mean that in a bad way.

While the handling of firearms is a deadly serious topic, the hobby IMHO should be fun.

If you want a "blinged" out Glock go for it! If your thing is WW1 rifles in 100% original condition do it!

Sometimes I think we gun owners are our own worst enemy.
 
The slide is not the registered part, i would think that any shop that does chroming can do it for you without any legal issues.

Yup but what about making it fit? I would think that chroming would add thickness and the slide would no longer fit properly. Also, would the added weight be a concern with regards to proper cycling?
 
Spend less than the cost of chrome and polish it with a good polishing compound. Highly polished stainless is shinier than chrome and will last longer. No chipping or bubbling etc. and you can do it your self if you chose. But my personal opponion is guns go bang not bling.
