Hey guys,

Looking for a quality chronograph, buy once cry once and don't shoot it.

Looking at the MagnetoSpeed with the MK Machining thingy where you can mount it on the stock, or the LabRadar.

Would like to have some advices from users.

Thank you!

If cost is no concern the Labradar is pretty much the best thing going. I know the Magnetospeed is popular but I have never seen the appeal of something that can't be used with all firearms.

Another vote for the Labradar. They go on sale about once a year to save some $$. I also made my own base to save some cash and bought a better power pack than they sell for less money.

Lab Radar for sure IMO as well. Magneto Speed is pretty good also. Only problem is, with it mounted to your barrel it could change your POI. Magneto speed will mess with POI on some guns. Other guns it doesnt seem to make any difference.

Seems to me Clarkeepooh's buddy, Todd had some fancy gizmo he showed photos of.
Might be worthy to track'im down as I do beleaf he is a site sponsor as well.

Let us know wtf you awptitted furr and some range photos of it in yewse.

A couple of guys here have them: they work up loads & dial them in then use it . Never work up a load with it attached: it will definately shift your POI.

I have the Magnetospeed and have used it lots. I got a good deal via EE and it has done everything I required to date (pistol / long range / service rifle).

I have never used the Labradar but it does seem pretty cool but it is a little more pricey, however I would imagine that by the time you purchased the Magnetospeed and the cantilever mount so it doesn't have to attach to the barrel I'd say they are pretty similar cash.

Take one of these when you next pay for your auto insurance, pull the guts out and use an elastic to fasten it inside the aiming slot of the Labradar... Ask the nice lady for an elastic band too... Won't cost you a penny... :). I've witnessed that it works well. Worth adding, the one mentioned above fabricated by MK Machining, looks to work well too...

My mantra is too "buy once, cry once"...ALWAYS !

My first chony was a Shooting Chony Beta …. this was before Magnetospeed and Lab Radar were around.

I acquired a Magnetospeed a couple months ago (in lieu of a Lab Radar).
Below is why I chose the Magneto over Lab Radar....

I shoot in F class.. which means I shoot in a prone position.
A couple of years ago my buddy bought a Lab Radar.
We found that it worked great and flawless for us from shooting on a bench (i.e. elevated off the ground).

However, when I went down on the mat to the ground at my local range in Regina ...the Lab Radar would not pick up ANY of my shots (not matter how we adjusted it).

However, I have seen other guys in F Class use a Radar on the line during practices and matches at the North Star Range at Nokomis, Sk.

I am of the thinking (this is strictly my hypothesis) that the radar will not function when close to the ground.

My local range is flat elevation (and might explain why the Radar crapped out).. but the Nokomis has shooting berms which probably creates a 4 to 6 foot gap from the ground.

I have not used my Magnetospeed since I acquired it 2 months ago, but I am certain that it will perform brilliantly given my shooting style (i.e. proned out)

I'm not trying to single you out (not trying to call you out).

But how could a Magnetospeed possibly change a point of impact ?
Honestly I can not see how it could ever change POI unless actually contacted the device itself.

Has this been tested?

My thinking is that when the bullet leaves the very tip of barrel, the ONLY thing that could possibly alter PIO would be a change (I.e. damage) to the crowning of the barrel ?

Wouldn't the shock wave of the projectile will always be behind the projectile itself (at least until the projectile became sub-sonic) ?

We have used a Labradar extensively at various ranges shooting from the prone position with no issues.
We have several chronographs including the high-tech Kurzzeit, but one shooter commented "why would you bother with the Kurzzeit if you have a Labradar" as set-up is quicker for the radar. Additionally, military snipers and police ERT use these shooting from prone all across North America.
The one that we used at the CISC @ Gagetown worked fine from prone.
