Chronograph recommendations

What's the best value for the money these days.
Need one I don't have to walk back to often, Indoor and outdoor capable.
Laptop download interface a plus.

I have one and like it lots of features you can also purchase a infered light kit for them and I think I read something about bluetooth links to your laptop(but dont quote me on that)

I just got 1 of the new RCBS ones. Looks goofy as heck but seems to work OK and I couldn't beat the $115 I paid for it.

Wouldn't trade mine for all the Chrony brand models that you could stuff into Ontario.

You can order IR screens for indoor use and it has it's own program to download and sort the data.

Foothills Firearms Training in Calgary used to carry them but I think they've gone out of business. Try ordering direct from CED.

Has anyone used one of these indoors? Do you need there lights or will they work in a well lit room? I'm looking at getting one, although I only shoot factory ammo in my powder burners - I'm more interested for airgun, archery, and black powder (black powder being outdoors). For occasional use I'm thinking the chrony might be good enough.

I have an Alpha Chrony, and can't recommend it. It reacts to the shock of other shots on the range giving errors, false readings, and even messes up the setup -- like switching to metric all by itself. Also I don't really trust the thing. Some velocities are just obviously wrong.

The best is considered to be the Oehler. However they are not compact or cheap. The big advantage is that they use three timing planes instead of just two.

Buy the MOST expensive one you can find. This will do wonders for your concentration and accuracy, hehe.

The Oehler is the standard to which ALL other chronographs are judged.

The Oehler is BY FAR the most expensive you can get but not necessarily needed.

I have found the CED MII more than adequate for testing my match loads and it is quite affordable.
