I need to chronograph some 12 ga. handholds that I have been working up with fiber wads. Some very experienced members like Ganderite have suggested that a Shooting Chrony be placed 15' or so from the muzzle of a rifle for good readings. If I did that with my shotgun i'd risk blowing the chrony away with stray pellets. My question: if I place the chrony just a foot or so from the muzzle will muzzle blast interfere with the reading?

My guess is yes it would. My Chrony is sensitive to the muzzle blast of my 375 if set up too close. Can you set it up at 10-15 ft and then protect the front with wood blocking or steel plate. The majority of the pellets should fly over the sensing screens any strays would be stopped by the barrier. Success will probably depend somewhat on what choke you have.
