I'm new to reloading and recently bought a chrony.
What distance does the chronograph need to be from the end of barrel?

I usually set mine up at 15 feet.
With big boomers, you may need to move it out to 20 feet, so as not to get false readings from muzzle blast.

For pistols I usually have the chrony about ten feet out, for the big rifles I use it at 15 feet out. Sometimes muzzle blast can cause inaccurate readings as Eagleye mentioned.

They tell you in the chrony manual how far to go for what gun.

I typical pace out 10 feet with all my guns, heel to toe, and plop it there.
Biggest thing I shoot is a 7.62x54R, so think 30-06.

6.5x55, 15 feets is ok but 338 lapua needs a good 25 feets to give accurates readings

Not true for the .338LM.

I run 10ft for pistol - this is the distance for IDPA/IPSC.

And 15ft for rifle, including the .338LM.
