Chronographs: Best bang for the buck?

Chrony used to test their new components and designs on my range. They shot a 22, a 243, a 30-30 and a 308 - and a bow.

So, Mr Ganderite, you end up with a new chrony. Pretty nice.

I can't always shoot when lighting conditions are absolutely ideal. The Chrony has been sold and a CED Millenium 2 is on the way. I'm tired of missed shots and errors. If the CED doesn't work in poor lighting conditions (I imagine it will though) there is an infrared screen kit for it that I will be getting. I also like the tripod mount, it will make setting up for prone shooting a breeze. No more hunting around for scraps of lumber to prop up the chrony.

Cheap LED solution for Chrony indoors

I was looking into buying one too, but stopped after I realized that I'd need to get battery-powered lighting units to make this usable at my indoor range. That's extra $$ for lighting plus having to rig a 12VDC/120VAC converter, so I stopped.

However, I did get the impression from searching many forums that the Chrony can be troublesome. The one recommended more often as both accurate & reliable unit was ProChrono Digital by Competition Electronics.

I use Beta Chrony. Two LED rechargeable worklights (CTire, $17 ea on sale ), 4 rubber bands to keep lights on top of the screens, looks ugly but works 100% for at least 3 hrs (could be actually 6 hrs). Had to invent this setup to beat the fluorescent lightning indoors (if any).

Otherwise CED Millenium II, sure looks great.
