Chronographs

I've used the Magnetospeed, and although the concept is good, there are too many applications where it won't work for me to want one. Think full length tube magazines, light mounts, muzzle brakes, etc. I have a 35P, and I like it, but it can take a while to set up, and it can be negatively affected by atmospheric conditions. The chronograph that has my attention at the moment is the Mylabradar which is just now coming into the marketplace. Price is similar to the 35P, but uses Doppler radar to measure the bullet velocity, rather than measuring the time it takes the shadow of the bullet to cross 2 or more sky screens. Thus the Mylabradar set up is quicker, and is less likely to be affected by the changing light of atmospheric conditions, like variable cloud, fog, rain, ice crystals, snow etc. It could also be setup out of the way down range if you wanted to get a velocity reading at long range to confirm your bullet's BC, without risk of shooting the instrument.

I bought the Magnetospeed sporter it has good and bad points
Good
Fits in my shooting bag
No setup attaches in 2 minuets
can be used in any light conditions
Works with a muzzle brake
Paid $280 all in
I set up and shot over my chorny reading were within 10 fps (either both were right or wrong consistently)
You don't need to hold up anybody else on the shooting line while setting up
Gives averages of shot strings etc. easy to use display
Bad
Changes your POI not really a big deal I only use to check velocity after load development
Will only work on guns it can be attached too, you need at least 3" clear on the barrel can't be used on semiauto pistols, anything with a tube mag or a bow and arrow

Overall I'm happy with it

Magnetospeed sporter... in the same price range as the CED. Seems to work more reliably

Give me a shout.

CED is also possible.... just think the MS is a better product for the money spent.

Jerry, can you bring in Caldwell products? I am thinking of buying their chronograph.

I've got the magneto V3 and also picked up the attachment for pic rails so I can mount it on my ARs . Can't complain works great and don't have to worry about shooting it

Got my Caldwell from Bass Pro, but Cabelas has them as well. Been using a Chrony for the past 25yrs and no issues. Just liked the app interface on the Caldwell.

Little White Dove ordered me a Caldwell for xmas. I have a feeling I am really going to like it. I'll get an Oehler at a later date.

Chronograph test. Oehler 35P vs Chrony F1 Master https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzNKUAgpKNY
I currently have the Beta Master Chrony that I've used for several years. I needed something to cook up loads for my 450 Rigby as there wasn't and still isn't much loading data on this side of the Atlantic. Had loads sent to me by PH's and game wardens in Africa but they use Somchem powder. Gave me an idea where the velocity needed to be. Had to set chronograph to maximum length that the chord allowed as the muzzle blast is quite ferocious. Luckily I've only hit one of the support rods so far with a 223. The chronograph works pretty good (granted it's not an Oehler but for the money it's OK). Like anything else it has a few hiccups here recording velocity.
Flies and bees flly too slow to be recorded...LOL

Wanted to try the new Lyman chronograph but seems to have a delayed launch by Lyman.

Was playing with the Caldwell Cronograph tonight in the basement with a Red Ryder BB gun lol. It's a neat unit that works quite well with the app. I'll do a little write up at a later date once I get a chance to take it out with a few rifles.

Congrats 0neshot!! A chronograph is a must for a reloader as far as I'm concerned, more to keep pressures in line than anything. Enjoy the new toy!!
