So, I was out yesterday, primarily to chronograph some loads that shot well, but I did not yet know their velocities.

These velocities have all been corrected to muzzle, since Chronograph was at 20 feet.

6mm Remington. [Rifle is an old, flat-bolt Ruger 77 with a Shilen 1-8, 24" SS barrel on it] 100 Partition and 48.0 grains of H1000 gave 3090 avg for 10 shots.

30-30 Winchester [M94AE, 20" barrel] 170 Nosler solid base and 35.5 LVRV gave 2225 average. 160 FTX and 37.0 LVRV gave 2345 avg. pretty impressive!
By the same token, the 170 Speer and 32 grains of IMR 4895 gave a mediocre 1900. Shot well, but gives up a lot to LEVEREVOLUTION.

30-06 [M700SSDM, 24" barrel] 165 Partition and 59.0 Grains of 47N (Higginson) gave 2910 average. The 180 Accubond with 61.0 grains of Norma MRP gave 2820.

My 222 Remington [M700C, 24" barrel] 50 V-Max and 23.5 grains of Reloder 12 gave 3155 avg. same load with the 50 Ballistic Tip averaged 3205.

My 303 Epps [P14, original barrel, shortened to 24"] 180 Sierra Pro-Hunter with 50.0 grains of Reloder 15 gave 2655 avg. [Don't try this in an Epps on a Lee-Enfield action!!]

My Lazerguard 30-06 [S2, 24" barrel] 165 grain Accubond with 60 grains of WC760 SL10 (Higginson) gave 2927 average.

My 308 Norma Mag [M700 Custom, 26" McGowen] 180 Scirocco II, 73.5 grains of IMR 7828 gave 3088 average.

All in all, it was a rewarding morning, and my old Oehler 33 worked flawlessly. Had to haul it in when it rained twice, lol.

Regards, Dave.

I don't think I'd enjoy reloading as much without my lie detector.
I know I should use it near the beginning ,but it always seems I've forgotten it at home until I get close to the Max Load.
Witch which is wich is still better than waiting for the primer to fall out.

I like knowing the velocities of my loads but the surprise predictor for accuracy to me has been the Extreme Spreads for a given powder charge. I've had loads varying only in charge with the same powder which were very close in average, but significantly different in ES. From personal experience lowest ES options gave me best on-target accuracy. (Yes; there have been a few times I've channeled my inner-geek & calculated Standard Deviations on some trial loads, but a quick peek at ES has been a faster tool and usually just as effective).

You may have noticed that I mentioned that these loads were accurate already. Most of them showed an ES of less than 15 fps. One, the 222 load with the ballistic tip was at 21 fps.
These are all good, IMHO. I have had accurate loads at 100M that showed a considerable ES, but the difference only shows up, accuracy wise, at +300 yards. Then the vertical starts to show up.

ES between 15-23fps sounds impressive enough to me. I think out of the couple of dozen calibres I've loaded for over the years there's only been 1 or 2 that ever gave me an ES under 10fps, and even then only after lots of work, and unfortunately with a temperature-sensitive enough of a powder that my November hunting results weren't what I'd been expecting from July load-development.
Anyway; I've had accurate and inaccurate loads before I started using a chrono. Now, one big difference is that I have a better idea of when a bad group is due to an inconsistently-performing load, as opposed to 'fatigue' (or: me simply screwing up).

I call BS...
When did rain fall?
Last two trips to Terrace were both 30+ sweltering degrees and I still have the sun burn...
I'm thinking a drips of moisture were sweat, lol...

Thanks for the tip on the Leverution powder, I've been thinking of trying it (not thinking anymore).
