Chrony

My Beta Master has given good service for many years. Only downside is their sunscreens get brittle eventually and can easily break. I'm currently building new ones out of bleach-bottle plastic.

Never thought of that...should work, and the price is right.

Mine got brittle too, after a few years, and the muzzle blast ripped them. Ordered a new set from Chrony, the new ones are way thicker than the originals. Inexpensive too, but more so than a used plastic jug. :)

I owned one complete with printer. It worked well. Whatever, many time I had error messages or no recording because of wrong key set up menu which are easy to bump by mistake and lighting problem. It is also giving different reading depending of light condition for a given load. I found that annoying since you loose confidence in the unit after a while. I finally sold it and purchased a PACT chronograph with integrated IR for inside - outside and low light condition. A better unit - easier to use with an integrated printer.

Also, I did not like all the wire from the Chrony unit to the remote head display and another piece of wire from the display to the printer. You need to buy the small C Clamp to hold the display by the way. Myself I purchased all options along with the printer ( spare printing head, batteries, extra roll of paper ect..) when all was added up, the PACT was a better deal by a wide margin.

Please note that if you use the steel rod provided to guide your shot and support the sunscreen - you will have a nasty surprise if you shoot a steel rod. The plastic housing holding the rod and sensor will break. An easy fix for this is to use a wood dowel of proper diameter instead.

I suggest that you download the Chrony manual and have a look at it before buying : http://www.shootingchrony.com/manual_BG.htm

I have had the same experience as Janeau with consistency. Same load / different readings depending on light conditions. E-mailed Chrony thinking something was wrong with my unit and got a quick reply with several tips for improving accuracy. Haven't tried out this info yet. This gives me something to do tomorrow now that my fishing trip is cancelled.

What kind of 'tips' did they offer?
