Churchill 206 O/U Sporting

I cant see clearly in the pictures, but it looks like the grain runs completely horizontal and the break is right along it.

I'm thinking more of a defect in the wood.

No other way could have fractured that way. Yes, wood movement leads to checks and cracks but those would be along the grain. The fibers should not be running across the wrist but rather along the long axis of the gun (like when a fore-end splits). Was a poor blank or else poorly laid out and cut blank from the beginning.
