Churchill "bubba"...is my price outta line?

My FIL was an avid collector of enfields before he got sick. He had two of these rifles, apparently *either* protoypes or rifles for the queens guard. He was the provincial firearms officer in the 60's and 70's, and apparently bought them in the grease from one of the businesses he was licensing...they stayed in the grease and were donated to the Huronia Museum in Midland, they are available for viewing there, with a plaque with the FIL's name.

It would be worth the drive to Midland to see a stainless steel Lee Enfield. Only a couple of hours from here. You really should notify the curator of the Pattern Room collection at the Royal Armoury in Leeds about the existance of these rifles.
 
You've actually sparked an interest with me....at the time they were donated (about 4-5 yrs ago), I had no interest in the enfields, and never gave it a second thought. I am actually going to go there and see if I can get details/photos (and actually see these rifles out of the grease hopefully) I'd like to ask Jim, and if he has a "lucid" day I will make it a point....kind of touch and go at this point I'm afraid.

If I can confirm I will then start a whole new thread on the guns.

I suspect it will torun out they are brushed nickle or hard chrome plated parade rifles, but we shall see. AFAIK, no stainless Enfields were ever made by the British gov't. Who knows though, perhaps some 3rd party company made some?
 
That could very well be. I *know* they were silver/grey...but with my limited inspection (due to the wrap/grease) that's all I can be sure of.
Unfortunately, if he and I had of had the conversation more than a year ago, he could have told me every detail....but not so now :(
I'll see if I can dig up more info.
