I recently bought my first CIL Anschutz . It's a model 180 which currently wears a peep sight . Took out first time today and am considering mounting a scope on it . Just wondering as to whether or not I will have to put taller scope mounts on to clear the large front sight . And with all the current model .22 LR specific rim fire scopes available , what models are the most used for this gun . Don't really want to spend more than $250 CDN as I also have to re-scope my Marlin 25 MN .22 mag . It currently has a older 4x , which seems to be lacking when it comes to seeing the bulls eye at 50 yards (fine cross hairs cover the bull ) . The CIL will be used for squirrel hunting and plinking at 50 yards . Maybe a Nikon P Rim fire or is that much scope necessary in the bush ? Not really interested in fixed powers or parallax adjustments .

Is there anything else that changes when it is used or is it just focus . Reason I ask is for what I want that would be useful but , I have never had a side focus on a scope and I don't want to be constantly chasing the focus knob , if I am also chasing a moving animal in a scope . The other thing I am not sure of is , if you have elevation markings , does it affect point of impact . At 50 yards , it shouldn't make any difference , but I am asking this more in regards to the scope selection for my .22 mag. as it will be used at longer distances . At this point , I only had concerns about enough light inside the bush , which I could mostly improve by going to a 1" tube and a 40 mm scope , over swapping that old fixed 4x off the mag. to the LR and the other problem being , that front sight sitting right in the middle of my window .

Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12 with AO is decent and I think reasonable in price. Have one currently on a CIL /Anschutz 310

I also have a CIL 180. I installed a Nikon target EFR 3-9x40 with adjustable objective. It can focus from 10 yards to 300+.

Where I live squirrel hunting is sometimes under 25 yards. Without AO the crosshair will be out of focus hard to see.

Burris deluxe steel rings (high height) works well. Fits the 11mm dovetail and the CZ American too. Just enough clearance for 40mm objective. Got it from Wholesale Sports.

The Nikon 3-9x40 with BDC reticle is about $160. The Target EFR is a $100 more but worth having. Both are nice clear optics for the money.

If you're hunting with the single shot, just leave the AO or side focus at 25 yards or whatever the unadjustable scope has its parallax set for and go from there. No one has to be "constantly chasing the focus knob". But the focus can be adjusted to see more clearly if that's desired.

Don't worry about it. You won't see it. I've had the CIL Anschutz 180 scoped and you just don't see the front sight.

Why not just remove the front sight and then mount a 40mm scope?

There's absolutely no need to do this. The front sight and hood won't be seen through the scope. Removing it risks damaging or losing the front sight.
