I heard a rumor saying that Anschutz made an improved replacement receiver for the CIL300 and similars to avoid to cracking. Anybody has info on that?

CIL imported a number of Anschutz made rifles, and stamped them CIL Anschutz. Among the CIL imported models were some semi auto rifles marketed by Anschutz, such as the Anschutz 520 and 525, which got a CIL Anschutz model number, such as the CIL Anschutz 300. These semi auto rifles were not made by Anschutz.

If I recall correctly, the maker of these semi autos is Sovereign and production ended in the mid-1990s. If there is an improved receiver it appears to be a well kept secret.

HI,
The 300 receiver has been known to crack. The 470 seems to be far less prone. All of them were made by Marochi (Marochi's model number is SM64). It's interesting to note that Anschutz proofed the barrels.
The cracking seems to be most likely because of improper reassembly after cleaning. I've inspected several cracked ones and have a bunch that aren't cracked in both 300 and 470. I've measured both springs at home (free and compressed lengths) and the 300 springs are the same as the 470 as near as I can tell. It is, however, essential that the main spring be carefully aligned when the bolt is reinstalled. There is a tool but I simply use a thin 90 deg hook to align the spring while moving the bolt back and forth gently by hand. It's easy.
The 300's were the Anschutz 520 while the 470's are 90% (my guess) from the Anschutz 525. There was seemingly some overlap though. There is a CIL/Anschutz thread here in CGN at https://www.canadiangunnutz.com/for...-and-Discussion-(Canadian-Industries-Limited).

Hope that helps!

Cracking receivers were not a big problem with the 300's. Blowing up cartridges and lost extractors and the bottoms blown out of the magazines were far more common. I was doing CIL warranty in the 70's at Barotto Sports in Calgary. That blow up problem seemed to follow the various actions based on the 300. Eventually I believe a shell deflector was added to the action for the shooters protection. It is about the last semi auto .22 I would want to own.
