CIL 308 Stock Switch......

I have a 308 CIL, I assume it to be of savage 'descent' could I use any one of the savage short action stocks for a 10 series in lieu of the current/antique one it now has ???????

Is it a CIL 950 T? If it is you could use a Savage 110 short action stock with top feed

Why yes..........yes it is...........So this means any stock for a 110 would fit(top load).....great thanks for the help !!!!!!!

a 110 is a long action..a 10 is a short action...and just to confuse things further....your CIL might be a medium action 110.....maybe "Boo" will tell you the distance between the screws on the medium action 308 that I sold him a while back.

measure between the screws,center to center, and it will tell you whether it will fit or not. Then you'll know what action length you have. There are two lengths of 110's and then the short 10-11-12 series.

I did not know there would be a lot of variance in short 308 and long 270/3006 actions. I thought only short and long were the only options ??????? This is new to me (this rifle in its quirks) so i'm in the dark here !!!!!!!!!

Back in the day, Savage made a short action version of the 110 action, which isn't the same as the short actions sold today, it's a little longer (still shorter then the regular length -06 type actions tho'). Some folks call it an intermediate action. They didn't make them for long, I've only ever seen a couple of them over the years. Just measure the center to center distance of the action screw holes (front to rear) and you will be able to make useful comparisons. - dan

Below are the action screw spacing measurements for the various 110 actions. It is important to know what length of action you have when ordering a replacement or aftermarket stock to assure the one you receive will fit.

Short Action = 4.275"
Mid-Length Action = 4.522" (commonly referred to as a J-Series)
Long Action = 5.062"
All measurements are center-to-center

Jennis, the C.I.L. 950T is what is refered to as a "medium" , or J- series action, as BigFlint stated.
