I have a couple of these now one might say a start of a collection. Just looking for any information regarding differences, or information.

The start to my collection was a CIL 402 in 16 gauge that was my Grandpa's. First shotgun I used for quite a few seasons. Even with the full choke it always seemed to have issues with too much spread and most grouse would have multiple pellet hits in the meat. I haven't used it now for years, but think its time I locate some good ammo for it and try to pattern what will work the best and give it a go again. I picked up a 20 gauge a couple years ago that was cut down on the stock, and I had issues hitting anything with the fit. I refinished the stocks and it is going to a new hunter as soon as he completes his hunter training course. I picked up a CBC in 20 gauge just this week, and it is a sweet shooting little gun. Just took a bunch of grouse with it over the week, and the choke seems to be quite good. Took me a few rounds to figure it out, but seems pretty tight at most grouse ranges. Tonight I just purchased a 410. I have used a few 410's in the past, but they were short barreled guns, and never really did that good. I'm hoping a full size will help turn that around, as well as I will now have a couple loaner guns for guys new to bird hunting, or to shoot a few rounds of clays with us in the summer.

There was also a C-I-L Model 401.The forerunner of the Model 402.Had a 401 in 28 gauge and a Model 402 in .410 at one time. From what I remember the 401 had a more narrow forend than the 402.

Had a Remington Model 812 in 28 gauge at one time as well.Seems to me it was pretty much like the 402,except for the Remington markings.

The .410 is not the best for a new shooter in my opinion.Patterns are not good at longer distances.I used a Winchester Model 42 .410 for a couple of years back in the mid 80's.The .410 was okay at close range, but any more than 30 yards max, it was was iffy at best. For a new shooter, the 28 gauge is a much better choice .Good patterns for wing shooting and low recoil.
