Went through my dad's stuff and came across several boxes of these. I remember shooting these as a kid growing up. At least 20 years old. Looking for some input on this stuff. Worth anything? Any good to use?

It is worth what 30 year old used ammunition is worth (less than retail, but more than you father paid for it).

I don't think it has "collector" value to anyone if that is what you are asking, but I could be wrong and you get what someone deems it to be worth.

It used to be on the shelf in every small town Co-Op on the Prairies, and likely still sitting in glove boxes of old farm trucks and dresser drawers of old farmers throughout the countryside.

It went bang most of the time back then, and don't doubt it still will today.

That being said, modern .22 ammunition has actually progressed a fair bit since they were made, and if you are using it for anything other than plinking (like hunting small game), there are much better rounds on the market (if you find it on the shelf).

Thanks. I didn't think it would be of any value but one never knows. Gonna throw a box in my bag next range trip.

Like Critter said, little to no collector value but still a great plinking round. I still have several bricks of the stuff and I shoot it out of my S&W Model 41 at the range. It is clean ammo and I have yet to experience a FTF, FTE or FTL in the 5000+ rounds that I have shot.

I believe those packs were just under $2 in their day.

If you count the effect of inflation, 22 ammo used to be very expensive.

Save the boxes, they are great for carry ammo in the field.

I've got a dozen of them loaded with various types of .22s. I put them in my range box, for when I'm trying out a new-to-me, .22 pistol or rifle.
Then I check them out to see which one shoots the most accurately and/or reliably, in a given gun. It takes awhile, but it's fun.

As a youth, I shot thousands of rounds of "Super-Clean" standard velocity 22 ammo, and an equal amount of "Whiz-Bang" High velocity stuff.

Additionally, for you memory hounds, how about CIL "Central V's"? Or CIL" Match" 22LR? Or perhaps some CIL "Bisley" 22's?

They also made a Pistol match, IIRC, but I never fired any of that. I did acquire a bunch of CIL 22 LR in plain white boxes that were marked simply:
property of the DND. lol. They were "Super-Clean" standard velocity, just repackaged for the DND.

Regards, Dave.

I've still got some Whiz-Bang 22 cartridges that still go bang and kill things.

The C-I-L .22 ammunition is my favourite for hunting rabbits.Been using it for years.

Not 100% sure ,but I believe General Dynamics ,who took over the old C-I-L/I-V-I operations, still load it for the military.

When I worked at CIL, we made over a million rounds of 22 ammo every day.

We had hundreds of test guns of each caliber to try to make sure our ammo would function in the field. The real test for 22 ammo was the S&W M41. If it would work in that, it would work in most all others.

Match ammo that did not pass accuracy standards went into Pistol Match boxes, or maybe Canuck boxes.
