Thinking of parting with a CIL Model 871 in 30-30. Just wondering what you CGN's would estimate it's value to be.
Good shape with light handling marks. Starting to show some light surface rust spots on the receiver where it had been carried.

Thanks for those that provided what I think is a fair estimate. The other opinions are were not worth reading and were not worth the effort to type.
Some people only offer negative comments.

No disrespect to the owner but they are the worst rifle ever made hands downs sold a few in the 70's they never worked new out off the box and there cousin the shotgun version is no better

I have some "yeller pizz" coolin' down on the counter, waiting to make an offer...
Looky, you're a nut job!
All that aside, the rifle is interesting and Nomad nailed the value.

I just picked up a Savage 170 from a co-worker. Its in pretty nice condition, with some bluing gone from where the fore-end slides on the receiver. Maybe I got a deal, and according to some(cold wizz) I didn`t, but I paid $140. So far it hasn`t caused me any problems. Cycles and operates perfectly.

I have to retract my statement above. Was out today with the old 30-30, and she was jamming, and sticking and really being a pain in the a$$. I still love it though.

Not sure what you're shooting for ammo?
Reloads, bring them back to factory spec's.
Polish your brass and clean up the rifle in and out.
Sticky is just that.
Open the action and drop a round in.
It should clunk in and fall out when the barrel is raised
with an open action.
If not, scrub away.

Update on my CIL made a trade for this rifle early this year. I have run more that two boxes of shells through it. After the first jam I discovered that not treating it like a safe queen works better.
Pull the slide like you mean it and slam it forward and there was no more problems. By the way it will shoot 170gr. bullets better than 150's. Think I will try it in the woods this fall.

"...light surface rust..." 0000 steel wool and oil. Take it off or you'll be losing value.
"...basically a savage 170..." No basically about it. It is a Savage M170.
