Citori barrel selector - did I screw up?

Hi Folks,

Was playing around with a recently purchased Browning Citori and some snap caps and learning how the inertia mechanism and barrel selector works. All was good until I learned that I could switch the safety on the to fire to trigger the second barrel when dry firing. Well I got the stupid idea to switch the selector from O to U between dry firing barrels (with snap caps) and upon trying to break the action open it was very difficult and wouldn't drop the barrels down by itself. With moderate effort I was able to open it, but it didn't seem happy about it. If I operate it normally it opens and closes smoothly.

Not being overly familiar with the internals of this firearm is this something I should be concerned about?

when you fired both barrels.... then tried to open it, you had to #### both internal hammers

I never had the need to use snap caps in a shot gun or rifle ....
 
It's new. My concern is the (repeatable) difficulty to open the gun if I switch barrels using the selector between shots while dry firing. I understand it's not a normal use case for the gun, just wondering if it does something horrible to the mechanism...and I don't plan on doing it again.
 
I understood (but could be wrong) that the Citori needs an actual shot with recoil from the first barrel to properly work on the second. Snap caps won’t do it. Could that be related?
 
As above, you are cocking both barrels, which requires some force. If you really want to test the action, slam the butt into your leg (or the floor) after the first shot, this should switch barrels for the second shot.
 
Don't "slam" the butt into the floor too hard unless you want to split the stock.......

If it's a new gun then it will be a bit stiff because it's not broken in but as has been said before, you are cocking both hammers when you open the action (if it has been fired).
 
The resistance you felt was the necessary force to #### upon opening the first barrel you "fired". As other's have said, the 2nd barrel was not "fired" since the inertia action would require you to "bump" the gun between shots. All is fine.
 
When I put in my snap caps I fire the under barrel first and bump the butt pad on the bench to set the other fire pin then fire it.

Put on the trigger lock, I use this method as I don’t like to put in safe with either pin cocked
 
X2 on the no need to drag this one out . Make sure all your contact services are lubed so you don’t gaul the contact services . Any grease will do .
 
Isn’t inertia only needed for an automatic second shot? If I select lower barrel, fire, then select upper barrel and fire, have both barrels not fired? (I believe this is what the OP is doing). If my citori clicks on the first barrel and I switch the safety on and off, the second barrel is now ready to fire, with no inertia.
