Hey guys,
I"m wanting a 20 ga. O/U shotgun and saw a used Browning Citori lightning 20ga in good condition at a dealer for 1295.00....is it worth it?
Originally I was thinking a budget O/U like a condor supreme or savage 555 or mossberg silver reserve II....would the used Citori be worth the extra dollars. The purpose would be grouse hunting.
I already have quite a few 12 Ga. shotguns (pumps and semi's) but want something lighter as I'm having trouble with the weight of these guns after having shoulder surgery.

Most o/u are not what I would call lightweight, but are great guns. Can also carry it broken over your shoulder. The price sounds about right if it is in excellent shape. Chokes removable? Belgian or Japan make? Either way the citori is an excellent gun that will likely outlast your grand kids if you keep it maintained.

All citori's are Japan the price is fair if the condition is very good + much better gun then any of the entry level guns all so if kept in the same condition value will not fall

The price is somewhere in the 40-50% less than a new one would set you back (once taxes are in etc) - so if it's in decent shape and you like it, it doesn't sound "over priced at all".

My Browning book pegs the weight with 26" barrels @ 6 lbs 7 oz and 6 lbs 9 oz with 28" barrels - so not exactly a "heavyweight"

The Lightning sold for $1700-$1800 for a long while... so the gun is no where near half price... but $1295 (+ tax, I assume), is an OK price if the gun is in excellent condition. I bought one like new last year for $1200 shipped.

You obviously haven't seen the 2015 prices.

The current list price for a 20 gauge Citori Lightning is $1989.99 (in either the 26 or 28" barrel models) - add GST/PST/HST, as applies, and 1200 bucks looks about half price to me.

And if you toss in another 200 bucks plus tax you can get the "Feather" model.

It isn't 2014 (or earlier) anymore....

Your math isn't great... I am still seeing the Citori Lightning at $1900... but even using your numbers... a new one is $2147... the one he is looking at is $1463... that is 68% of new... as I said earlier, a decent deal but no where near half price.

I have yet to see a good condition O/U sell at half price of new? At 68% as quoted above it is a good deal if in good condition. As well all Citori's are Japanese made. Superposed's are Belgian. There is a world of difference between the two. Lightning Grade simply means the gun is about a half pound lighter than the standard grade. Weight savings are accomplished through slimmer barrels primarily. At $1200 for a good used Citori Lightning in a 20 gauge you cannot go wrong.
