I have a 1976 fixed choke Browning Citori and the trigger often does not reset after firing the 1st shot. I use cheap trap loads for partridge hunting. Would someone know why this is happening?

Sometimes, particularly shooting doubles, I don't release the trigger completely after the first shot and miss the second shot. Try a few doubles and allow a bit more of a release before slapping the trigger for your second shot.

pmatuk's advice is good too. If the trigger mechanism hasn't been cleaned for years, you'd be amazed how much gunk can collect.

More recoil will probably fix it... it is based on stiff recoil and your resistance to the recoil...

Cleaning the 'recoil block' mechanism may help. Heavier loads will.

Thanks for the help fella's. I tore the gun down and it indeed was very gummed up/dirty. I will put it back together and try today to see if that resolved the issue.

Finally got around to trying it and the issue is resolved. It was the gummed up trigger mech internals that was the issue.

Thanks all for the help.
