I just got my first M305 from another member in a very sweet deal ;)

I did a bit of reading about it since it seems to be import marked with "CJA SLFD MICH".

According to what I found, these guns were imported in and around 1994, and the article I read mentions that the Marstar imports after 1994 had "harder bolts". Does this one have one of the "soft bolts"?

Is there any risk of growing headspace with this one I got?

The parkerizing job on it is better than I expected, under the furniture and everywhere it is very uniform and well done :dancingbanana:
 
The markings were applied in anticipation of export to the US. Never went there, because of the ban on imports from China. Eventually the parts were assembled into a rifle for sale in Canada. I am unaware of any reports of soft bolts on rifles imported by Marstar. You will note that your rifle has no bayonet lug, and the flashider is likely tack welded to the barrel. These features were also to comply with US law.

I see there is no bayo lug :redface: However, I saw no welds on the flash hider, I was looking at it pretty closely yesterday trying to see how to take it off without a castle wrench ;)

Most parts are electro-penciled matched to the serial? Is this standard?
 
Electro pencil is standard. Look on the bottom of the FH just behind the lug. You may see a cleaned off area, or a couple of faint oval discolourations. Back off the set screw before attempting to move the castle nut.

I honestly did not see any, I will take a picture tonight and post it. But as far as I could see, the parkerizing around the flash hider was uniform and nothing seemed out of the ordinary.

Is there any need to take off the flash hider? I have not figured out how to get the handguard off yet (anyone?) do I have to take the flash hider off, the gas piston system off to get the handguard off?

This is the recommended cosmo-remover I believe?
 
You can remove the handguard without removing the FH. Just slide the gas cylinder assembly foreward, or use the correct pliers on the HG clip. If you want to remove the gas cylinder ass'y from the rifle, the FH will have to come off.
I've not used Simple Green for removing preservative from a rifle, but it certainly cuts grease and oil on machine parts and tools.
