When you guys are buying scopes for your long range rigs will you sacrifice Magnification for clarity? By that I mean will you pay more for a clearer scope with less magnification? I am looking at upgrading my 3200 tactical 5-15 for something with a little more magnification but was told more clarity would be better.

I don't think you can go wrong in opting for better quality glass rather than highest magnification. A good example would be Schmidt & Bender. They are considered some of the best glass in the world yet their most popular scope only goes to 25X.

Consider this. A 1 MOA target at 100m and a 1 MOA target at 1000m will appear to be exactly the same size in your scope. So, is it more important to make it larger, or more important to see it clearly?

a lower power clear scope can often see what a high power fuzzy scope can't. The difference can be very significant. 10 power high end binos can see little holes much further away than some 20 power scopes. FWIW

x2 on that.

I have a cheap 20-60x spotting scope (got it as a gift... it usually stays at home :(), and I can barely see .22 cal holes at 200 yards, yet at 100 yards I can see .22 holes with my 4x ACOG.

Clarity. Try using a high-quality scope at 10X next to a cheap tasco at 32X sometime. You'll be able to make out bullet holes with the 10X that you can't with the 32X, despite having a 'bigger' view of the target

clarity! all the way!

that being said, a 10x super clean scope isnt goin to let u shoot a soda can at 1500yds..

its a fine line between then 2.. that being said, u can always drop the big $ on a S&B 12-50x56 scope..
