Classic 22lr bolt action recommendations

Where have you seen such deals?
Hey OP-in my opinion, all of the best options for what you're asking for have been listed. All I can probably add would be to not let price be the deciding factor. At least until you've held a few of these. Most people who have been at it a while would probably pick an older CZ/Anschutz over a new Savage and if you handled both=good chance you would too. Not saying they'd be the best choice for you, but worth being patient a little while longer to better-understand what your $ is getting you?

If budget is tight and needs to include a scope, you have to factor that in too. Some models don't come with iron sights and require optics of some kind. With guns/optics-often you get what you pay for, so as long as your expectations are grounded in reality there are lots of options. If you want something that just goes "bang" guns like Cooey 39s are small/light/reliable and equipped with iron sights. You'd be hard-pressed to spend more than $200 on one and it will outlast you even as an antique.

It may not be the kind of gun that holds your interest, or even grows it. 22LR is an amazing caliber with lots to offer, but to really wring-out all the potential, you'd be better-off with something better that could grow with you.

Good luck!

My favorite shooting is going out in the woods with my Iron Sight CZ 452 Lux and shooting clumps of snow off of trees.

452, 455, or 457 should fit the bill for you. Lux model for iron sights, American for scoped hunting, and MTR or Varmint for target/range. These are all more traditional looking walnut stock models.

Lots of kibbles out there if one wishes to expand the chorus awn’ear.
Marlin made some superb old shooters.
Winchester on an echo.
Mossberg has too if you choose their styling.

Old Cz’s in the numbered series as well.

Used BRNO for sure

Really as close to a centrefire rifle as any 22 has gotten in terms of feel for me. The tikka t1x is a close second, not low cost or classic though

If 500-600 bucks is on the table I think you can do well on the used market. Something to be said for owning a nice bolt action 22

GNG and Intersurplus have lots of nice old 22's.
Few years ago the new zastava 22's were quite nice for $350 or so, walnut stocks, high polish blued steel, no plastic anywhere.
I had too many 22lr already by then but did grab a 22mag, had many 22mag over the years but they were mediocre accurate, this one is solid. Nice small tight action, nice trigger, out of all the Zastava rifles these were the nicest they made.
Had a fancy for the old Mossberg 22's and ran through a pile of them, had models from the late 1920's to end of production, well made, late models like every company got more and more budget. I kept 2, a 46b and a 146ba, late 40's early 50's production if I remember right, 46 because it had really nice walnut and was accurate, 146 because it was accurate and had some odd wood stock on it, still haven't figured out what it is, Ash, Elm, or.Oak maybe, very pronounced grain, reddish stain.

Intrsurplus has a Brno Model 2 (missing rear sight) at $495. Good luck finding the missing sight part. If a scope is mounted, the rear sight doesn't matter; it was probably removed to clear a scope.
I like Brno .22s. Have three: A Model 4 target rifle, a Model 2 sporter, and a silhouette rifle I built up on a Model 4 action - rebarreled with a premium barrel, set up in an offhand synthetic target stock. Rebarreling a vintage Brno .22 is more work than most centerfires. Complicated breeching.

Hi All,
I am new to shooting and would like to get a nice classic bolt action 22lr with w wooden stock that's a high quality and preferably used( to keep the costs down).
I mainly intend on target shooting for fun.
What would you recommend? Are there any hidden gems?
There's a lovely Kimber of Oregon 22 on the ee right now. They are very nice, lifetime rifles. - dan

Not cheap but a quality rifle... Browning A Bolt Medallion Grade. I have one I would sell.

A Bolt right.jpg
It has two magazines, a flush mount 5 shot and a 15 shot extended magazine.

I'm still kicking my ass for not picking up a couple of those Zastava's; I got one of the last Zastava's in 6.5 x 55 that was sold new here in Ontario; I love it!!!
