Where do you get ptarmigan in Saskatchewan now?
A long, long time ago they used to winter some years, as far south as the CPR line that used to run from Nipawin to PA, in the area around Love and Whitefox to at least as far west as Smeaton.

Bruce, that Ptarmigan was shot on a mountaintop south of Smithers BC., near our summer cabin. Of the three species of Canadian ptarmigan, White-tailed ptarmigan live exclusively in the high alpine. We still have Willow ptarmigan in Sask, but their numbers are much reduced from years ago. My son saw some north of Denare Beach / Flin Flon a couple winters ago, but they never come as far south as White Fox any more.
