Hello,

I have been using a Ruger SR 1911 in IPSC's Classic division and have had a lot of fun. I have seen a lot of 9mm single stacks and thought I would shoot something that uses a cheaper cartridge so I picked up a used STI Ranger 2 in 9mm. My question is this gun legal in IPSC's Classic division?

Thanks

Yup, I don't see anything on it that would make it illegal in Classic Division, also meets the rules for USPSA Single Stack Division. However the shorter slide will give you a reduced sight radius, this may affect accuracy a bit.

I have been using a Ranger II in .40 since the Classic division started. So you are good to go. As Pat had indicated the shorter slide/ barrel does somewhat reduce accuracy. Also you will need to be a bit careful making your power factor with the shorter barrel. If you are reloading this should not be an issue. But just check your power factor is using factory. The shorter barrel will reduce your velocity a bit.

I would highly recommend swapping your sights to a fiber optic. By far the best upgrade I have done and really helps on longer shots. The fiber optic sights are available from Freedom Ventures - sponsor and distributor for STI.
