Classic Division: Major or Minor?

With better course design it shouldn't matter, with the courses we typically see the extra rounds will help.

I am thinking that tapered mags and magwells are not the deciding factors of who wins in Standard division!

I agree. I have a magwell on my colt 45 that overal width is less the the 35mm CD permits and It's worked very well for me for years... that little extra room to guide you in is all you really need. I've never missed the hole and jammed the edge, after all, you also learn and get used to it after a while...
Well, maybe sometimes I missed the hole, but not the magwell of my colt's opening ... ;)
And going .40 and adjusting your load accordingly for minor or major & swapping between 8 - 10 rnds mags, sounds like a good idea.. and after trying both, you can gage which you seem to do better in and them stay that way... and not have to buy new gun or modify top ends, etc...

I think I'll lean towards that way as well, for future...

After reading comments in this and other threads. Taking in consideration my wants/needs. I was leaning towards a STI Trojan in .40 but I'm going to go with 9mm instead.

1). I want to keep the same cartridge as in my production pistol.

2). I like the nine and it is less expensive to shoot.

3). We all shoot the same stages regardless of division.

4). I don't want to trip myself up by trying to remember if I started with 8 or 10 rounds in the mag.

5). At my skill level (60% +/-) I don't think shooting major with two less rounds is going to make any difference in my scores.

6). I shoot for fun

I look forward to any comments :D

Stonehorse,
going 9mm or minor with 10 rounds in the mag is the way. I have learn this painfully yesterday shooting my first CD match. It is really hard to shoot it with 8rds (.45ACP), since the stages in Canada are done with 10 rounds in mind.

I'm a gear/gadget/upgrade whore as much as anyone, but here is an idea:

Everyone shoots the same caliber and same mag sizes.

I know it's crazy.

Then the best shooters will rise to the top.

I am leaning again to the 9mm,..but on the other hand, with .40 you can either declare Major of Minor. If you declare minor (even though shooting major PF) you can load up the mags and shoot 10rds.

Then you get scored minor so you might as well shoot .40 downloaded to minor. It kinda sucks to shoot major and get scored minor..,
