Hello,
I am fairly new to the Classic Division in IPSC. I currently use an SR 1911 that has an Ed Brown magwell extension and VZ grips. I would like to know what other modifications you would recommend to enhance the pistol and maybe my performance. I was thinking of adding a fiber front sight, any suggestions?

Thanks

If you have any issues reaching the mag release...you might want to get a bigger or extended mag release. I hate shifting my grip...classic major will require more mag changes. Fibre optic front sight would serve you well, as well as have a spare different weight recoil spring (reduced weight). Youight find it cycles better for you.

Just had an Infinity tri-glide trigger (with short/flat insert) installed in my STI USPSA Single Stack.

Along with the other Infinity tri-glide parts and a trigger job it breaks at a nice & crisp 1.85 lbs.

I have yet to try it at a match since the mods were made but if practice is any indication, it'll perform very, very well!

trigger job, sights that you like (i have FO on all my fronts but its alot of personal preference), an extended mag release only if you cant hit the release without it, otherwise I wouldnt as it just creates more chance you will drop a mag by accident simply through grip or table starts. I also like front slide serrations, again personal preference.

I'm using a sr1911 right now as a test and there isnt really alot that I would change on it other than what I said above

Yeah...if u don'tneed theextended mag release..don't get it. U may accidentally drop some mags during stages....which is really...really awesome. Lol.

also, before spending all this money on 45, do a few matches cuz im sure your gonna wanna switch to minor.

but if you have your heart set on this, dont forget to pin the grip safety and front strap checkering/grip tape.

lols yep its really really awesome for anyone watching - you on the other hand will skip more than a few beats

last summer something similar, not exactly the same thing happened to me, fed 5 mags (on first mag change) and every single one dropped free, picked 1 from the floor and and tried slamming it in - same deal. turned out the damn mag release had gotten stuck. so while everyone behind me were laughing their a55es off, my night was pretty much ruined

I run a stock button on everything, it's easier to learn to flip the gun to reach the button than to explain to your buddies why you were dropping mags in the middle of a string. Also bad idea for table starts as a lot of guys will punch te button while picking up the gun.
Bomar type rears are pretty much a given, really good sight picture and adjustable. Fiber front is up to you, I've shot both and really can't decide if I like it or not. Skateboard tape the front strap, S&A magwell or Techwell, or Wilson magwell, whatever fits in the box and doesn't exceed 35mm.
And make sure it can shoot 9mm or .40 minor since most of the courses of fire are heavily biased towards guns with 10 round mags.

I had to pin the grip safety on my 1911. Too many times I didn't quite depress the grip safety and ended up shifting my hold. I'm slow enough as it is without that nonsense. Oh, a rubber band works great also for a temporary 'fix'.

You can also adjust the amount of engagement you have on the grip safety. Just mentioning it because some disciplines require it to work.

I was thinking about a trigger job on my SR191, what do you recommend? I took the lower end apart and cleaned it well. The trigger bar is polished already, what else can I do? Can anyone recommend a good smith in the Western GTA that could do a good trigger job?

The only other thing I did to my spartan that is not mentioned is I installed a mag well. Got it from DLASK creates a nice funnel without going over the legal width requirement of I believe 38mm?
