I have read 1:10 is good for stabilizing lighter bullets and 1:7 for bullets up to 90gr. However can rounds with heavier bullets in the 69 and heavier range actually "fit" in the chamber of the SAN rifle?
I am thinking of purchasing a Classic Green and will initially buy rounds but eventually want to reload.
Uses will be target shooting and hunting.

They'll fit in the chamber, but probably not in the mag. I load my .223 just a little longer than spec, and they barely fit.

Anything over 63gr (RUAG) is not ideal for 1/10 twist, but perfect for anything around or under that. You won't stabilize a 90gr in a 1/10 - of that you can be sure! :)

just a quick point. i shoot 1.5" groups at about 75m from my classic green (with iron sights i suck with). 1/10 barrel with 69 gr SMK's over 25.5 gr of RL 15

loaded right to spec 2.260

Once i get a rail and some rings to mount my scope ill post some pics of my groups which i will imagine will stay at about 1.5" out to 100m.

so in conclusion My SAN 1/10 twist stabilizes 69gr smk's

My 1 in 10 Classic Green will stabilze the 89 SMK and groups very well with them. I load them long and still have plenty of room in the mag.

My gun will not stabilize the Lapua 70 gr Scenar. I've tried but it just won't hold a satisfactory group.

Are you talking about the 69 SMKs? - some of the 10s will and some won't - and some run them fine out to a certain distance and then they fall apart. IIRC 'Headamage' ran his until about 300 or 400m before the accuracy fell apart, and I couldn't get them to group worth crap past 400.

With regard to overall length, an unmodified mag will generally hold a round up to 2.330" and longer if you are careful with a dremel tool;) This may or may not be significant...

2 or three inches at 100. Probably alot tighter at 50.

The 77 grain rounds are a bit tighter at 100. But the rifle is a battle rifle and that is good enough. My .17 HMR will out shoot all my center fires all day. Maybe I need to practice more.lol
