I do have quite a few No.1's, but only hunt two of them... as I prefer the M77 Mark II's... here are a few more;

Daniel, I think they are referring to the M77RLS Mark II 7X64 pictured above. My son is shooting the CZ 550 Lux 7X64, he shot a nice bear last spring and a dandy buck this fall with that rifle.

I have had a few Stainless RS rifles in .243, .308, .30/06, .300 WM and .338 WM... they are all gone though. I still have the two walnut/blued RS carbines pictured below in 7X64 and .358 Win... and of course a number of RSI's.

Ended up with a Stainless T3x in 270 Win, practicality won out...and an amazing price for a complete package. $1950 worth of gun, scope, bipod for $1200. Owner put 3 boxes of ammo down the pipe and threw in a mixed bag of premium hunting rounds (25) in total. Too good to pass up, thanks to all who responded.

Can't go wrong with that decision. Now just keep an eye on the EE for a wood/blue rifle in ###X chambering and have both ;)

First big game rifle, looking at a 270 Win (not really looking at any other calibre). The real question for me is to get a classic blued and walnut stock rifle (Model 70), somewhat of a old timey piece for the kids or grandkids of the future. I know its personal preference but I cant make a decision. I keep looking at a few rifles on the EE and cant choose. Since its my first rifle, I wont be parting with it and will hopefully be passing it on. Hunting conditions will be classic Ontario rifle season weather for all potential big game draws. Realistic shots will be under 200 yards at most.

The only difference in the two rifles im concerned about is barrel length, one is 20" , the other 22". Im not worried about velocity loss, more about muzzle flash and noise.

A 20" 270 doesn't blow my skirt up. Frankly I would look for a good condition Pre64 M70 Standard rather than buying anything new. You could have it refinished if you wanted as there are plenty of Standard Grade Pre64s out there and it's not like you would be significantly altering it and destroying any collector value as you would be with a Super Grade or a rifle of some rarity. That said, if you found one in nice condition you probably wouldn't want to refinish.

There is no reason that you can't shoot and hunt hard with a nice rifle. Knocks and dings happen and if they are fairly earned then it's not the end of the world.
