Just sitting around here i have had another idea, something new to do. I have a KV Weaver 2-7 which i would guess at 50-60 years old, at least. I have decided i need a classic rifle to put it on, but don't want to vibrate it apart recoil wise. Anybody have any suggestions for a bolt or lever gun in the 222 class of cartridges?. 22 hornet and 250 savage have also crossed my mind, although the savage may be a touch more than what i am after.

Ideally, something about the same age would fill the bill, and a classic varmint round would be cool too.

for some reason, my mind kept wandering to 25-20, but the bee is a nice close relative too.

I recall seeing one in a browning rolling block when i was a little bugger, or is my memory decieving me?

Find a b original Remington 722 in 222Rem, and mount it with weaver rings.
Mike

A guy that I sort of initiated into shooting and definitely got him started in reloading has a Rem 722 (222) in great shape.
I have tried everything to get him to part with it, short of offering him a great deal of money, but no dice. I checked the serial number on Rem's website and if memory serves me correctly it was manufactured in the mid 70's. Man I sure would like to have that rifle.
The bummer is that piece can one hole all day long.

Can't beat the 222 Rem. 20.5/IMR 4198 pushing a 50 grain Sierra spitzer. Many of the early bench rest records were set with this combo. I've fired 6300 of these through my Sako Vixen heavy barrel in the past eight years. Maybe drop down to a 17 cal? 17 Squirrel?

The 222 came out on a Remington rifle, forget the model number, in the early 1950s. I saw one of the very first ones to come to Canada, somewhere around 1952.
The only problem with your Weaver V scope is, I am quite sure, the reticule increases in size as the power is increased. That's the way the first variables were. I had a Redfield 2 to 7 that was like that.
I have had the picture of my nostalgic varmit rifle on these threads, a Brno in 22 Hornet, made in late 1940s. I had a Weaver K6 around which I mounted on it. That seems quite traditional for it, also an excellent scope.

If someone would send an Email address, I will send some pics of a nice 722 and maybe they could be posted on this thread. I am computer challenged at posting pics.
