Just looking for clarification on this revolver.
According to the flow chart, date of manufacture must be before 1897...This revolver line was manufactured from 1881 through 1913, but all frames were made prior to 1898???
Soooo, if the serial number checks out that it was made after 1897, it would be considered restricted?

Just checking, and thanks for the help!

Call the feds at their tech department, give them the serial # and they will tell you for sure, I have 2 and have letters for both from them stating that they are Antique. If the frames were made before 1898 then the gun should be Antique but check with them.

ALL large frame (D/A & S/A) top break smith & Wesson frames were manufactured before 1898.

It took until 1913 to ship them....

Yes all S&W First Model Double Actions in 44 Russian are Antique. Serial #'s go to Approx 54600 all frames made prior to 1898. I have 2 in the 53000-54000 with letters

Yep, my letter from S&W says the same thing. First introduced in 1881 and sold until 1913. Total production of 54,668 revolvers. Mine was shipped from the factory on Aug 8, 1881.

So on the S&W DAs in 44 r CFC changed the Serial number cut off ? it used to be 52600 but if there lettering all right into the 54000s then thats fairly new policy.
They used to say all the frames were pre 1899 so took a few thousand off the serial number total to account for the ones made in 1898.
I will call and double check as this would be good news if they just decided to say all of them made are pre 1898.
Just like the S&W new Model Number 3s
